White wedding dresses actually gained popularity in the nineteenth century, and it had nothing to do with "purity" or "virginity". Wealthy families dressed brides in a white silk dress because it was expensive and impractical--basically it was a way to say "we are so rich we can afford this dress that will only be worn once". Before that became fashionable, ladies wore the nicest gown they owned, regardless of color.

Don't worry about wearing white hon. :) I like the second dress for a beach wedding, since you won't be overwhelmed by sand and wind and the heat like you would in a ball gown.
