Any tips for smokey eye makeup? Help!

I want to do a smokey eye look for my prom but I'm not really sure how to be able to achieve it without it looking rubbish! Any tips or advice would be much appreciated!x

What colour is your prom dress?

Try applying the dark colours in the crease of your eye and at the edges , go with the lighter colours mainly in the centre and blend into the dark so that there isn't an overload of thick black makeup
