Yes, bleaching damages hair, so get it in best condition. Brush your hair from bottom up to avoid breakage.

I'm getting ready to bleach my hair and so I will give you the same tips my hair dresser gave me
1) wash your hair 2 times a week, the natural oils helps your hair stay healthy
2) do not use any heat on it such as blow drying, straightening, curling, etc.3) use advance biolage shampoo conditioner and leave in conditioner this is kind of spendy but it gets the hair in the strongest best condition ever if your planning to go blonde

Don't bleach! I was a dirty blonde and am now a VERY light blonde. It took about a month but is wAy less harmful than bleach. I dyed my hair lb01 blondissemme, I came out strawberry blonde. I washed it with purple toner(life saver!!) every few days until I got a desired shade.
