The sad ugly truth is, if you want to go lighter, it is stripping colour from your hair and therefore damaging. However, if it is because you are frying your hair that you do not want to use bleach, I would recommend hair masks, deep conditioning treatments, hot oil treatments and less heat. You want to nourish your hair after putting it through stress. There are several DIY recipes for hair masks if you are on a budget!

You don't necessarily have to bleach it. Use loreal hair color remover (color zap) to remove the brown dye. I just used it on black permanent hair dye and it worked wonders. Depending on how light it turns out you could just have to tone it to get blonde because it will leave your hair orange. Ill post a picture of how my hair looked after I removed my black so you have an idea how it might look.

Get it professionally done!! I've been platinum blonde for years and know everything about blonde! I've tried to do it myself when I was younger and my hair was really brittle and dry, so before trying to dye it more, put repairing conditioner in your hair and leave it for a couple hours even over night just put a bag over it (so you don't get a mess) and then wash it out. Wear your hair up for a week or 2 and let it air dry (no heat) and get it professionally done! Advice from someone who has tried this before

Plus you have beautiful long hair you don't want to have to chop it all off like I did :(
