I've always heard that olive oil is a great moisturizer for your hair, but recently a hair stylist told me that it's actually not a good moisturizer--it can't penetrate the hair shaft so essentially all it's doing is coating your hair. Which one is true?
Thanks xo

I honestly prefer coconut oil, olive oil is too heavy for my hair at least. This is my routine ( my in laws are indian so they share their beauty tricks with me ;) ): Whenever I need to wash my hair, I rub some coconut oil between my hands to heat it and then massage it throughout my hair, giving a particular attention to my scalp. That will increase your blood circulation resulting in making your hair grow faster, stronger and healthier. When I'm done I wrap my hair in a towel. You can choose how long to wait for the coconut oil to penetrate your hair. For deep treatement I leave it overnight, otherwise even half an hour is alright. In the shower just wash your hair as you normally would, you will also notice that all the frizziness will be gone =)

You could heat up the olive oil on the stove or in the microwave for about 15 seconds and put it in your hair. If you have a shower cap, that would work well too.

Olive oil as a deep conditioner does wonders for my hair. And during the winter heals my dry scalp when temps dip.

Olive oil is good for your hair and skin, my nana would put olive oil on her skin as a moisturizer at night it really helps me when my skin is dry! Honestly, any high fatty oil is great for your hair even mayonnaise is great for your hair! I have even heard that dark beers are great for conditioning your hair although I have never tried it.

Olive oil can definitely penetrate the hair shaft. I prefer to use it on my scalp but it is present in almost every product I use for a deep condition.

If you're going to use a beer, use one with a high hops content and warm it up first. I generally use coconut oil due to it being lighter on my hair, and it doesn't leave my hair oily. Olive oil, no matter how little I use, always leaves my hair feeling heavy and gross-tastic.
Also, I wait a day after an oil treatment before using any heat on my hair because supposedly the oil makes the hair burn because it heats up so fast.
