Mascara substitute?

Let's just say I'm a little younger than most of you on here, and my parents won't let me wear mascara. I have blonde hair, and my eyelashes are hard to notice. A lot of other girls my age, and even younger wear it. I was wondering if it would work if I wet a brush and applied black eyeshadow to my lashes. I might try that, but I thought there might be another trick that would work.

I'm not sure about eyeshadow, but people have done it with eyeliner.

if you use petrolium jelly, it will make your eyelashes seem thicker, and since your blonde, you may try and mix it with your black eyeshadow and experiment with that form of homemade mascara. Hope this works out, but honestly, the later you begin to use makeup, the better, it is not meant for young skin that is still maturing, and natural beauty will forever be best, so keep that in mind, dear. 'u'

I agree wholeheartedly with Elizabeth. Just make sure to take care of yourself and you'll hardly need any makeup at all. Then you can just wear it for fun when you want. Also for your mascara alternative, I would suggest going with a dark brown rather than black. You'll still get the definition you're looking for, but it will be a softer prettier look for you : ) hope that helps!

When I was really young I used a clear mascara, it just high lights your eyes a bit and curls them upwards so they are more noticeable, I'm blonde too so I get where you're coming from:) Another thing I know is that before makeup was really invented Roman women put olive oil on their eyelashes it makes them glisten and shine a bit so you can see them more plus its not as sticky as something like Vaseline.

Yeah petroleum jelly. That's actually how the first mascara was created because a man saw his sister putting petroleum jelly on her lashes! And he created Maybelline. (Because his sister's name was Maybell)

petroleum jelly+black eyeshadow may smudge though,
since it's quite greasy :S

i saw a video, i think it was by nikkietutorials on youtube, using eyeliner pencils, a lighter and a spoolie... also there is clear mascara or eye lash/eyebrow gel mascara by Essence i think its about $3
