So I was doing my friends makeup, and she didn't know she had eczema, but feeling her face, I could totally tell. Her cheeks were really rough, and there were patches on her face where it looks like skin peeled off. I'd never really paid attention. She's always said her face was really dry, but feeling her face, I KNEW it was eczema. I had her put moisturizer on, and used primer, but that was the best I could do. And the foundation I used (cream graftobian foundation) went on kind of patchy. Is there anything else you can do to make the skin look better? I didn't tell her she had eczema, because lets face it, I'm not a doctor. I figured she'd figure it out one day. But what should you do in times like that? I felt like there must have been something else I could have done to make her face more flawless.

I occasionally have eczema on my face as well and, like Krystal said, it really is up to her skin care routine. The best that you can do is moisturize her face, apply eye makeup while the moisturizer absorbs, and then try mixing a little moisturizer with the foundation to make the application a little smoother.

Thanks guys. :)

Moisturize!!! I have eczema so I know how tricky it can be. Moisturize well and then don't pile a ton of product on top, it'll just show texture.

I was born with eczema as well, and I have it on my face too. Honestly, it would really help if she talks to her doctor to get a medicated cream to remove the dry skin faster. A mineral makeup helps like bareminerals, or something like mac studio fix foundation in the compact packaging not the fluid, and yes be sure to always moisturize beforehand! (:

I always have problems with powder foundations... They just don't tend to do anything, as far as I can tell. And they're a splurge. I don't know about bare minerals, I'll have to see what I think. In any case, which shades would you say are the most versatile, essential shades of theirs for me to have in my kit. To be honest with you, I have nothing bare minerals, so it's just a stretch, y'know? And I would tell her to go to the doctor... But she's one of those people who don't really care and don't believe anything will truly help. But, for eczema, which moisturizer (that hopefully would have some kind of treatment in it) should I reccomend to her?

I was born with eczema, but fortunately, I rarely get it on my face (I have combination skin, so I have places where I get eczema, and then other places where I get bad acne...its obnoxious to say the least)
Anyways, when I do get eczema on my face, I rub a little hydrocortisone on my face before bed (in fact, I put it on the patches all over my body) and then follow up with moisturizer in the morning--It works wonders. Also, I recommend using a really gentle cleanser like Cetaphil that won't dry out her face.

Organic products will do wonders to the skin, and stuff like Aveeno is a great brand for dry skin. I also suggest cetaphil since it's quite sensitive and shouldn't burn, the less she does to irritate her skin the better! My eczema on my face comes and goes seasonally, but it really depends on how you take care of it because if she takes the time to help herself, she will see an improvement. Honestly, it may not be an instant change, but a few weeks or a month can fix lots!
If you aren't comfortable with mineral makeup, definitely do something in your comfort zone, but don't be afraid to try something new because you never know what products you'll fall in love with! Honestly though, no matter what skin type I still highly recommend any foundation from mac. I've also heard sephora's High Definition liquid foundation is fantastic, but I have yet to try it myself!

the kid i babysit has eczema. his dad is obsessed with being completely natural and organic. i researched and found out rose hip seed oil will do the trick... it does even better. it's like 12 bucks a pop on amazon but so worth it. i'd recommend it to anyone suffering with eczema... but always test a little out on your wrist first, of course.

Thanks so much guys!!! It's been extremely helpful. And good to know I was right in thinking the Proactiv and St. Ives apricot scrub she's been using are too harsh. She thinks it will get rid of it because it's dead skin... But it just makes it worse. And add on top of that, she doesn't even moisturize!!! So thank you very much everyone!!!

I always suggest the arbonne babycare line for people with eczema... the body wash and lotion are fabulous and gentle (obviously!) without any overpowering scent. And they're botanically based so no carcinogens. They also have a conditioning oil which is great for treating trouble areas... it'd be a good base to use a little before applying make up to soothe the skin and doesn't leave it especially greasy. check out the website... arbonne.com

Cool!!! Thanks! ^.^

My fiance has terrible eczema that itches him when he doesn't take care of it! The doctors gave him some of that hydrocortisone cream to help calm his skin down and advised him to moisturize his skin with any Aveeno lotion product. I also got a baby wash that is oatmeal and honey with a little dimethicone in it and it has helped calm the itching as well as the dry patches down. Eczema really just depends on well the person is taking care of their skin!
