So I need some opinions! I currently have acrylic nails but I'm a bit hard on them and they tend to lift fairly often. I've been told that gel is not only thinner (I hate how thick these acrylics are) but also that gel doesn't lift or peel. Any suggestions? I'm also totally a perfectionist when it comes to them being even and it just never comes out right with the acrylics not to mention my skin is SUPER thin around my nails and I constantly get cut when getting fills. :(

Gel is also a lot better for your nails than acrylics..

I've told them so many times that I want it thinner but they just ignore me or go a tiny bit thinner, it's kinda frustrating lol maybe if I don't go with gel I should learn how to do acrylic on my own. But I think gel it is, I hate the drills they use they get so hot and feel like they're going to burn through my nail.

If they don't listen go to somebody who will because its no point of waisting your money if you don't like it

The place you are going to is messing up your nails because if the drill is getting too hot on your nails that means that the grit is too hard and they are not moving the drill enough on your nails and that's why it's heating up. You shouldn't have any cuts on your fingers. I'm a nail technician and I recommend you either go to another person or a different nail salon. Acrylic is thicker than gel. Gel will not damage your nails if the nail technician does not use a drill or if he/she uses it lightly. I've done both acrylic and gel and acrylic lasts longer. If you are too rough on your acrylic then I don't think that gel will last on you. The acrylic will lift if you use water without gloves as the water goes in between your nail and acrylic and that causes it to lift. Another thing is to not pick at the acrylic because that will damage your nails. If you have any questions let me know. I hope this helps.

Stephanie that is incredibly helpful thank you! If my nails weren't so naturally thin and breakable I wouldn't do either lol I have an appointment with a new nail salon that I've heard great things about, hopefully it goes well! :)

I wore acrylics for years and they were a pain to keep up and even after getting used to them they were in the way. The gels not only look better but are easier to maintain.

Everyone has to be clear because "gel nails" is vague. UV gel is a nail enhancement like acrylic. They both do damage to the natural nail if a drill is used. A gel manicure is different, because its a polish that hardens under the UV light, this does not damage the nail. But it doesn't give you length if you don't have long nails. I personally recommend shellac manicure (gel manicure). There is another gel manicure called gelish.
