As I have mentioned before my hair is healthy, thick and pin straight. I dye my hair occasionally, bleach it on very rare occasions. And I use repairing conditioners when I do... but here lately, especially in the shower I have been losing quite a bit. As my title states, it looks like I shaved Chewbacca in my shower. Is this normal? Anyway to stop it?

Oh no! I feel like that with my hair. Sometimes, I brush my hair before I get in the shower to get more hair out before I wash/condition it - this way, there are no baby chewbacca hair balls in the shower.. Hehe..

You should try to avoid brushing your hair when it's wet because more falls out. But in the shower you might be scrubbing too hard.

That's my mom. :P Allopecia and stuff runs in my family. I shed a lot. My mom when she's showering will pull CHUNKS of hair out when she's washing. It's sad. She has a bunch of bald spots. And she's only 42. :( I'll be there some day. That may just be the case for you. But lets cross our fingers it's not. I think Keratin shampoo and conditioner has really helped my. Joico K pack is fantastic!! It's that hair and nails form by dead skin cells fusing to naturally occuring Keratin in your body. Or something like that. But it's a reaction between dead skin and keratin. So I find that when I use that, not only is my hair getting stronger and growing longer, but my nails are too!!! ^.^ I say totally do that. It's insane what it's done for me.

I was just going to post about this myself. My hair has been falling out so much lately in the shower (more than usual). Its ridiculous, not to mention clogging my drains and getting all over the place. I only dye my hair occasionally (though never bleach) and use sulfate-free shampoos and deep condition. I'm never harsh with my hair either. I have no idea what it is but its definitely upsetting since I don't have thick hair to begin with =(

The first thing you have to ask yourself is that, 'Does this happen every year? Around the same time?' if so, then its your hair moulting for summer (if you live in the Northern Hemisphere). If not, one of the comments above is probably more helpful ;) I often find my hair coming out a lot more during Spring/Summer due to moulting, a bit like cats

A similar thing happened to my mom and it was a reaction to a medication she was on. If you're one some you might talk to your doctor about it.

Hair fallout will most likely be due to an internal health problem (begin with a simple in depth blood check up to check if youre anemic/lacking some other important vitamin) rather than unhealthy hair. Just like our bodies, our hairs appearance has a lot to do with what we eat and how we treat our selves. A very common reason for hair loss among females is low iron levels (anemia) due to our monthly visitor. Personally this has happened to be, that being the trigger, countless times in my life. But before assuming it's your hair's health, check on your health!
