Get some abreva it works but if it is a crazy break out like I had once all over my upper lip and it was all swollen and I couldnt talk, smile, eat, etc. go to a doctor. I went to a urgent care and the doctor prescribed axyclovir pills and cream. The cream I didnt got it cuz it cost $300 but the pills are affordable.
So, try abreva and abreva now has patches to put on the cold sure to prevent it fro spreading or getting infected.
***DO NOT USE ALCHOL AT ALL!! ***
try creating a paste of baking soda and put in on the coldsore. Also put vitamin E on it.
AVOID Putting lipstick or lipgloss on it. If you do, clean it really good, or discard it, or use a q-tip to apply.
I always use q-tips to apply abreva or any other stuff when I have a cold sore. That way I don't get my hands infected and I avoid spreading it somewhere else.
I hope this helps :)

Try a water and salt mouth rinse. That helps alleviate some of the burning.
