I keep trying to grow my nails out, and once they reach a certain length the top layer peels off and leaves my ends thin and I have to cut them off. Any suggestions for improving my nail health?

I have the exact same problem :( Hoping to find a solution as well.
The best I've heard to date is to change up your diet to include more calcium and iron.

I have the same problem too! I've heard multi vitamins can help. Hope we all find a "cure"!

try to take biotin supplements. Also are you using acetone remover? try using non-acetone and see if that helps.

I do use non acetone, I also use a nail strenthener by Essie and nothing seems to help. I've been wondering if I should take a pre-natal vitamin because I've heard those are good for your nails and hair.

I noticed my nails also peel but mine is usually after I cut them or remove my polish. I can grow them longer eventually but they start getting this weird peely layered thing.

i have the same problem. I feel that they have gotten better when my nails are painted, this way they cannot peel more. Also make sure to not use any lotions that have alcohol in them because it will cause nails to dry out and peel more.

My do this too, but I wash my hands constantly and use pocketpacs ALL the time. So my nails suffer from my germphobia.

I used to have terrible peeling nails, but I found a trick that helped me grow out my nails, and I haven't had peeling in months! One thing I recommend for peel prone nails, is a squoval or rounded shaped, cause for me its the pointed edges that always seem to come up first. Then what really saved my nails is wrapping the polish around the edges and tips of my nails. This way water and moisture doesn't get in, and because there is a layer of polish over the end of the nail it cant split.
Just carefully swipe the brush against the edge of the nail, and it helps keep it together :)

Ok leave your nails bare for awhile (this means no nail polish fake nail ect.) and eat more vitamin k, it is good for your hair and nails. Also you could try rubbing alittle lemon juice on them. Hope this helps!

Use hard as hoof! It completely stopped my peeling after a few weeks of using it all the time. Its not a end all solution though, if you stop using the product i have heard that the peeling will come back, i can't speak from experience though

I do the same as Liz, wrapping the polish around the edges, it really helps - and in my case makes the polish stay a little longer than without doing so.

I also use a nail thickener gel and apply some nail oil (on the top of the nail AND underneath!) every time I change my manicure

at this moment I'm having my "no-polish" experiment. I've just started it and I try not to use any nail polish for a month and see if it helps me :) I used to do my nails every week and because I just love nail polishes, this is going to be tough :(

I use Lush Lemony Flutter and I don't any peeling now. I've heard Hard As Hoof like Marissa suggested is also really good but I haven't tried that one yet.

This is a horrible problem to live with, I have suffered the same problem, and the answer is none of those described, it is because I am allergic to formaldehyde and it is used in nail hardner. The exact thing that you want to use to stop your nail peeling and splitting. A lot of people have this allergy, yet it has not been banned by the FDA. However in Canada it has been banned from nail polish, check carefully if it is an ingredient then stay away from it.
