Why I usually do is start with a light color on my lid, then a shimmery color over that, and then take a dense brush and a dark color and make a "v" shape with it, drawing from your upper lash line to the canter of your crease, (o>) looking somewhat like that. Then take a fluffy brush and blend it out, making it look smokey.
