I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT MY DAUGHTER WHO HAS MEDIUM BROWN SHOULDER LENGTH HAIR DYED IT WITH CHERRY RED KOOL AID ON HER OWN. UNFORTUNATELY IT IS EXTREMELY AND REALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO WASH OUT. SINCE SHE GOES TO A PRIVATE SCHOOL, WE WILL NEED TO GET HER HAIR CUT TO MAKE SURE ALL THE RED IS GONE. UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE HAS EXPERIENCE WITH A FAIRLY GOOD WAY TO GET KOOL AID COLOR OUT THAT I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT, I WOULD REALLY BE SURE YOU LIKE THE COLOUR AND ARE WILLING TO LIVE WITH IT FOR A LONG TIME. IF ANYONE OUT THERE KNOWS HOW TO GET CHERRY RED KOOL AID COLOUR OUR OF HAIR, COULD YOU LET ME KNOW? I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT.

As for getting it out, you could try vinegar. Not too much you don't want to damage the hair, but it gets it out of clothes and so it may help. I'm not sure how old your daughter is, but you could always dye it her natural color too.
As for putting it in, Debra is right it might last longer than you think, as for me I think it sounds fun so of you decide to I would use a pack of the unsweetened kind, and I would be very careful not to get it on your skin, because that will stain horribly.

For every 2 packets of kool aid, you add 3 cups of water. Bring to a boil in a pot and let it cool for ten minutes in a heat proof bowl. Then, dip your hair into the mixture for 5-10 minutes. When the time is up, absorb the excess with paper towels and voila! It should last about a week, sometimes longer. For darker hair, go with red. Purple didn't show up in my medium brown but red did. I love it!

Do NOT use sugar in the mixture. That is probably why Debra's daughters is not washing out.
