a question to all makeup artists, when you are working on a client and especially more than one in a row, what do you do, and how to you prevent from getting a twinge in your back? or any back pain for that matter?, becasue everytime i put on someones make up, i seem to get a twinge on my left lower middle back, and i am right handed, ive tried various positions and i still cant seem to get it right! thanks for any help! ♥

Are you wearing comfortable enough shoes? and how high is the chair they are sitting on, because if its way to low that will happen. They should be at almost eye level with you.

My back hurts if the client is sitting in a regular height chair. I always keep a directors chair in my trunk, one that is taller just in case there is no bar-height chair for me to use

I'm not a professional makeup artist but I've previously worked on several school theatre productions where I've been working from one to five hours on one to twenty girls (with a team, of course).

I found that wearing completely flat shoes was not helping. The natural shape of your foot is curved, so a shoe with a thick, 1 inch heel (like a pair of boots) would be more comfortable to wear.

Also, as the other girls here have said, the height of the chair is key. The higher, the better, within reason, of course! You need to be able to reach your client!

And finally, your general health can be a contributing factor. Make sure to stretch every morning and night. This recurring pain could be because your back is just too stiff. And drink water regularly, even while you're working. The pain could be a cramp of some sort, and the two best cures for cramps are water and massages.

make sur eyou are upright and your client is at eye level to you. bar stools and makeup chairs are great for these. Working constantly bent over cos of the low chair will damage your back faster than you think. I once had to do a gig and was bent over for hours. by the end of the night i could bearly stand straight anymore and had terrible back pain for days.

shoes are also important. comfortable is the key and most definitely appropriate.

Ikea sells cheap foldable bar stools and i uses that as amy makeup chair. not sure they still sell them or they even sell them where you live. I got mine for $30. it folds in half so travelling with it is easy :) I know makeup chairs/director's chairs can get really expensive.

Also stretch befor eyou start working and to stretch for a minute in between the job. kind fo like loosening up the tensed muscles to avoid soreness/cramps

Thank you so much everyone, sincerely!...im not working on clients just yet or anything, only family and friends, here and there, but i notice when i do i get a terrrible ache in my lower left like flank area (im right handed)...i have people sit lower because i have chronic nerve pain in my neck and arms...but i have such a strong passion for this its all i want to do, so im just trying to get advice early on and see what i can do..and you all have been like the most help ever, thanks so much!, i def have some things to figure out and consider, much love and lots of hugs! <3 <3
