I think this is a good tutorial http://www.beautylish.com/v/rcicvv/updated-side-swept-bangs-cutting-tutorial

For me, I trim using normal scissors. I hold the scissors at a vertical angle and snip just tiny lengths. It's easy to adjust/control the length that way instead of being sorry for cutting off way too much. I just bought a pair of thinning scissors yesterday and I'll give that a try next time I need to trim my bangs again. Also, use a flat iron or blow dryer to really get that side swept look ;)

i agree!!! thats the tutorial i used to cut my bangs... worked GREAT!! just remember, cut them longer, first, then you can always trim shorter... cant make them longer though!!!

Take your section. Figure out where you want them to start (corner of eye, cheekbone, corner of lip, etc), & grab the section there. Without losing your spot, pull your bangs the opposite direction, & cut straight across. It will create the angle you want without having to cut it into your hair. That's about it.
Also, lots of salons/hair dressers do free bang trims. Take advantage of it-do you know how hard it is to fix too short bangs? I can't make hair grow.

Brush a section of hair infront of your face so you look like The Ring or something... then use your fingers to see the length, do a rough cut so they're short and not in your face.. then just slant your fingers at an angle and cut. Cut vertically inside of horizontally and make sure if your hair is wet, you know that your hair appears longer wet so when they dry it'll look different. And when your creating a new part in your hair, it will feel strange and your hair will want to go back to what it's used to. Just dampen it at the ends and keep it there and then it will become normal after a little.

I agree, cut less than you think you want to begin with. You can always go back and cut off more! The trick about slanting the hair the opposite of the way you want them to sit works, too. I know a lot of professionals cut hair wet, but I (as a noob) like to cut my hair dry so I can tell exactly how it will sit.

Cutting hair is kind of a hard process to describe how to do it in words. One thing I will tell you is try not to cut your bangs wet. Some people say it's best to do it that way, but I know a lot of hairstylists say it's better to cut bangs dry. It will be easier and more realistic to see how your bangs will turn out. And like some ladies before me said already, cut little by little. When I first started cutting my own bangs, I would cut a little and then style to see what it looked like, and then cut more if needed. Section the amount of hair you want for bangs. MAJOR important step. You don't want to just grab a chunk of hair and cut, it will look sloppy. You can use normal scissors but it will come out a bit choppier than using actual hair shears.

Good luck Laura! You've got a lot of good tips here from everyone so far! If you need any more help, I'll be glad to help with what I can! :)

You have to angle it or they will flop.
