Think about the fact if the tattoo's will be equally beautiful in a couple of years. I've heard that the feather might not look like a feather 10 years from now. It could be possible it will look like a big black spot. Talk to the artist about it!

@Brittany my first thought! please do not get a tattoo because others think its cute! Make it something that has meaning to you.

with that being said I like the feather on the neck. I have one on my lower neck and the pain is soooo minimal. andddd it was my first tattoo

@Marticka, if the artist is truly good and knows what he is doing it will be done in a way that it will last for more than 10 years. Eventually all tattoos get bad, but if it only takes ten years and it isn't from get really wrinkly saggy (which for her it won't) or a big huge weight change then the artist did not do a good job, or do it properly. A good artists looks at designs and should make those changes to it so that that doesn't happen, whether it be taking some of the detail out (but yet leave enough to where you can't even tell they did), or using a specific needle. I recently have had a lot of block work tattoos done on my leg, and you can't even tell he changed stuff in all the pieces unless examined closely while comparing to the book, the look beautiful! Also he used a three a round, the second smallest needle size (it does hurt more than the more common size), because it allowed to do cleaner lines with more detail and I won't lose near as much over time. The needle isn't used often and therefor a lot of artist don't keep them or even really know how to work with them (they tend to forget about them).

@Flannery, on that ^, if you go with a feather, you might actually want to ask about a three round depending on how much texture your feather has.
