What does primer do exactly?

My grandma asked me and I had an idea of what it does, but I'm not completely sure.

Primer helps you makeup stay put for a longer time. I use smash box photo light primer and I love it! It's a little pricey but it helps makes your complexion look better :)

Hourglass' primer is pretty pricey but, AMAZING!! Get samples at your local sephora and see which ones you like. I've tried the smash box primer too while I liked it I really loved the hourglass one

Yeah, primer does what it says on the tin: depending on the type, it preps either your skin for foundation, your eyes for eyeshadow application, lashes for mascara (although I don't know of many who use a lash primer), or lips for lipstick (but I think most would use a lipliner for that), and helps foundation/eyeshadow/mascara/lipstick last longer.

oh thank you ladies. I was just wondering. I just bought some today. I was originally going to buy the hard candy one, but they ran out. So now I bought nyc brand. I haven't used it yet. I hope it's a good brand..0
