The key to an amazing smokey eye is blending out the colors and making shore there are no sharp edges! The more you practice your smokey eyes the better it'll look! Good luck(:

Everyone has different eye shapes. and once you know what type of eye shape you have it will help a lot. It took me a long time to figure out how to put eyeshadow on my eyes because I have hooded eyes. For a smokey eye the key is blend blend blend and once you blended it blend more. I would recommend using a transition color which is placed in between the crease color and the highlight. A warm tone brown like Mac Soft brown is a good option.
