Hi everyone.
I have dark hair and fair skin. my hairs are very course and thick. I have been epilating for about a year now, and I have the worse ingrown hairs ever... it isnt just the ingrown hairs that are the oroblem though it's the dots and spots and bumps that I get. and even when I have just epilated my legs never feel smooth. shall I start shaving again? I stopped shaving before because my legs were often spikey the day after shaving. is this normal? do you all shave daily? will this stop my hairs from being so week to push through the folice like epilating makes it? x

Hiya I have to shave every day and a half, same as you dark hair course n thick, a nightmare :S I don't epilate but I read that if you esfoliate regularly you minimize the ingrown hair problem.

I believe epilation is where it removes hair from the roots. Which may be the cause for the ingrown hairs. I would try gentle exfoliation, Clarins has a few options. This should help with the dark spots as well. I would also soak in warm water to soften your hair follicles, and I would try shaving again. If the only drawback to shaving was a 'spikey' feel, thats probably better than bumpy spots. I shave every other day to avoid skin irritation.
Good luck!

Maybe you should get a really good shaver and be sure they have really good reviews!

Try waxing. it makes the hair thinner and easier to manage. they also give you stuff to help prevent ingrown hairs.

I actually use African Black soap in conjunction with shaving. And its helped big time for me...avoiding ingrowns. I also use a clay based exfoliation scrub made exclusively for the body twice a week.

If you exfoliate before shaving it helps you to not need to shave so often. It brings up the hairs about to come out so you shave them too and not the ones already grown..hope that makes sense lol

Try shaving with baby oil. it keeps your razors sharp keeps your skin moisturized and gives such a close shave. your razor gets messy often so keep a washcloth handy. also make a mixture of oj and sugar or coffee grounds and brown sugar and olive oil and use it before you shave. then use it again after and shave again. this will totally exfoliate for you and the oj helps lighten dark spots on your legs. lemon juice is good for that too just don't cut yourself.

Yeah any ground coffee that is used is ok. its one way to recycle! The caffeine is what your after. It stimulates cell growth, increases blood supply and basically energizes your skin. I hear it can help with cellulite too but I have yet to see that one come true on my big ole thighs.

Hello Danielle, exfoliating should help lessen ingrowns. Another alternative to hair removal is waxing them, but you may still get ingrowns. A great way of making your hair thinner and pretty much eliminate ingrowns would be laser. Since you're fair skin and have dark hair, you seem to be a great candidate and more likely to work well on you than others. If you do decide to look into laser, do your research and see which is best for you, to get better results and avoid skin damage. Best of luck!
