Girls I have oily skin.are primers really necessary? I mean is there a huge difference or not.I just use my hydra matt moisturizer before makeup but my foundation melts off after like 4-5 hours.I touch up with oil absorbing tissues and powders.I am curious if a primer will make a big difference.

A primer formulated for oily skin does help. It keeps the oil from readjusting and blotching up your make up. Have you considered adding a setting spray to your routine to make it last a bit longer? (ps. a silicone based primer is ideal for oily skin because it doesn't add to the oilyness)

I've been asking myself the same question. If I don't use a primer my face is very shiny after about 3-4 hours. I've started using Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer for a few weeks now and it kind of makes a difference. It does not keep me matte, however my face definitely isn't as greasy looking and I find it does make my makeup stay on better throughout the day. The only time I wear a primer is if I'm out for a whole day or if I'm at work. By using primer I find I rarely touch up with powder. I would recommend trying it and see how you like it. Personally I'm not a fan of my Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer because of the price. For $60 it's definitely not worth it. If you have oily skin try using milk of magnesia.

For me it's does make a difference. Also using a setting spray. It is not necessary, but your makeup glides on better and looks better than without.

Yup. It will control the oil and keep your makeup frpm looking oily.

A really good primer for oily skin is milk of magnesia. It helps control oil just like a primer.

I heard Smashbox primers are good, I haven't tried them myself.

Yes I have heard that I am considering to try too faced prime and poreless one or smahsbox but I can't decide.

Milk of magnesia did not work good for me with my oily skin. It made my makeup look horrible. I followed all the steps of applying etc. Anyway, I suggest Hourglass' veil mineral primer. I got mine in the travel size duo because it's cheaper and I didn't know if it'd work. It works extremely well, and there's none of the face melting happening at all. Even after 7 hours! Also, your skin routine and diet plays a role in your oily skin. Good luck! :)

I find that some primers are designed to control oil, and some of them are designed to just make your makeup look nicer, and of course the best primers do both. I like benefit porefessional for keeping my t-zone less oily throughout the day and laura mercier's oil free primer for smoother foundation application.

Yes you need a primer BUT after the primer out some MILK OF MAGNESIUM in parts where you get oily let it dry up then put the foundation!! 😌

I have extremely oily skin and primers make a huge difference. I wear my usual Laura Mercier or Smashbox primer and then add Milk of Magnesia on top of it. Yesterday I applied my makeup at 1pm and took it off at 1am. I had such a small amount of shine (above my brows) and it was around 11pm. The trick with applying makeup is allowing every layer to settle into your skin. If you don't it'll look a mess.
