If you want a very 'outgoing' contour use a darker foundation underneath or on top of your foundation, if you just want a normal contour use a matte bronzer! No shimmer as it looks un natural
For highlighting you can also take a light foundation and put it on the high points of your face, or for an everyday look you can use one of the many many products for highlighting which can be either creme or powder
What I recommend:
Matte bronzer: NYC sunny bronzer- it is the perfect colour for contouring
Highlight - mac k

You use a sculpting kit which has a contour powder in it..I know it gets mixed up with bronzers which are made for a tanning sun kissed glow to the face but some use it for contour in a matte finish but because of that everyone seems to have trouble finding the right shade not knowing the reason why you can't really find it because its meant for all over wear, and plus it gives off a different muddy orange finish hence tan sun kiss..now that being said I do recommend a foundation a shade darker then blend well don't make the mistake of leaving dark lines noticeable that will give off the side burns effect lol its sounds funny but if you look at some people pic's you can see it off the bat and that's not what contouring is.its sculpting the illusion of structure to your face.well blended to fade yet enhance :-)

For highlighting you can use a bit of concealer but to be honest most finish results of that can look heavy in person so for a light highlight I like to use a eye brighter its a mix of both which brightens the areas to give off more of the highlight effect without looking heavy in person.

I use Too Faced Chocolate Soliel for contouring. I have yet to find a matte formula at a drugstore to use for contouring. For a highlighter I've been using a NARS highlighting cream. I just tried Benefit's Watts Up and I really like that too.
