Getting A Job @ Macy'S Makeup Counter ?

hi everyone. :)
there is an opening in my local macys ; Retail Cosmetics Sales - Beauty Advisor
thats what the offical title is. i can apply online but really want to get this job. should i go in and meet the manager ? or what should i do ? tips ?

anything would be sooooooo apperciated. :)

i would definitely fill out the application online, then maybe give it a day or two, then go in to check on your application. most places do online apps now a days (i'm assuming it's easier for background checks & such). i filled out a paper app for my first job, got the job on site, but still had to do an online app. heck, they rehired someone & she had to do her application several times over to get the system to accept it (you know, those long questionaires that take foreeeever- she wasn't giving the answers they wanted)!

i've never worked at a make up counter or a macy's, but i'd definitely fill out the app to get your name in there, then go in face to face.

@ashley h. I think that's a good idea, I may just go that route. & I do agree with you the questionaires take foreverrrr. ha ha.

I actually have an interview for a beauty job at Macy's. All I did was apply online. Everything is mostly online with them. They even contact you via email to schedule an interview

Definitely fill out the application first, then give it about 5-7 days and call back to follow up. When I worked for Macy's (Benefit), I filled out the application online, did a follow-up call to the HR department, and then was offered a group interview. There were about 10 other applicants, and only two of us were offered positions. It's definitely going to help you if you have retail and/or cosmetics experience-that's what the employer is going to be looking for. It's also important to be knowledgeable about the lines they carry. Show them that you're passionate about cosmetics, and make sure that you have a professional appearance if you go to an interview.

@Carrie L. Thanks so much ! I've submited my application & I'll deff. be calling if I don't hear back by them. I do have previous retail experience & I even though I don't use alot of higher end brands they sell at Macy's I do know about them. Thank you so much for all your input !

I applied to work at Lancome in my local Carsons. I got a call from HR to do a phone interview about 5-7 days after I submitted the application. She was impressed and passed along my resume and her first impressions of me to the manager of Lancome. I was called in a few days later for an interview. I had a year of previous retail experience but no experience in commission sales. She was too impressed with the amount of things I knew about make up to let me go, so offered to put me into fragrances (which is right near her counter) until I had some experience under my belt. I go to their counter sometimes to help out when they're busy, as well as the other counters in the area.

My advice would be to go in and check out the department/counter you're interested in. Talk with the sales girls while you look around (act like you're buying) and see how they act. Really pay attention to that. Unfortunately, I don't think these counters are so focused on how much you're into make up, but more how good you are at selling the product. You can learn about products, but they're really looking for someone who can sell, sell, sell. Also, someone who is passionate not only about make up, but customer service because that's essentially your job.

I just read what you wrote above after writing all that (ha, oops!) but it sounds like you're headed in the right direction. Definitely give them a call if you don't hear back within the next week, just to let them know you're still interested in the job. It will show initiative. Good luck!
