Hi everyone, I'v been lurking Beautylish for about a year but haven't really posted much, but I'v had an on-going problem ever since I was about 5 years old;
I have a rare spinal disease, (I'm in a wheelchair) and with this disease, it makes me get really physically tired easily, so as you can imagine, putting on makeup isn't an easy task, but I love doing it. I'm really good with my eyes, but the real problem I have is that at night I have to sleep a mask on, and so with wearing that, I get really dry, red, cuts and flaky-ness around the sides of my nose, kind of under my eyes, and forehead, its so annoying. I exfolliate every other night, sleep with 3 different types of lotion and still have the redness, what Im asking is, does anyone know of a good skin-healing lotion? My wallets not that deep, so it'll have to be buy-able at drug stores / Wal mart / Target.
I'm also looking for a good way to apply foundation? Basically whats the fastest, best covering foundation technique I could do? I currently just do concealer and powder but it doesn't cover up very well;/
Also here are some pictures of my eye-makeup, if anyones interested:)

When you said "skin healing" lotion, I immediately thought of BB creams. These things were invented to rejuvenate skin after medical processes like chemical peels, etc. Maybe you should look into one of those! It's basically a moisturizer, primer, spf, and foundation in one. You'd have to splurge on it, but something tells me it would be worth the investment.
As for application, I recommend using a brush. I use ELF's Flat Top Powder brush and it takes me less than a minute to apply the actual foundation to my face. It's all about what works for you. If you find using your hands is easier or a sponge is easier, by all means go out and do it! Hope this helped you!!

A little aside: if you do go with a BB Cream, go Asian (e.g., Skin79, Missha, Skinfood, among other brands); the western "BB Creams" are just overglorified and overpriced tinted moisturizers.
You can find samples on the cheap on eBay, and you can find full sizes for fairly reasonable prices there, too, and sometimes with free shipping. (Just make sure you choose a seller with loads of positive feedback, of course.)

Yes i would stick with the asian brands for bb creams too! I agree with Shelly T I currently bought the no.7 bb cream as it was on offer in boots and it is nice but nothing more than a tinted moisturiser lol! I personally have used missha and its very good! U could also find more asian ones on www.sasa.com to see the brands available then try find them elsewhere! U can buy off the site but it can be expensive with delivery unless u spend over a certain amount! Maybe try a green based concealer to neutralise the red before ir foundation! Weird but works! :) hope this helps!

You can try an oatmeal mask. Oats are anti-inflammatory, so they'll reduce redness. And anybody who had to take an oatmeal bath when they got chicken pox can tell you that oats are soothing on the skin. Plus, they're super cheap! Just mix water with a small handful of plain oats in your hand, even better with some honey, and let it sit on your face for 15-20 minutes. This has helped me a lot.
And if you're using powder, try a little spritz of water on your face before you apply the foundation. This will make the powder stick to your skin more thickly, so you'll get better coverage. But you have to work quickly and lightly, or it will end up clumpy.
Hope that helps!
(And I tried to look at your pictures, but they seem to be gmail attachments or something. Sorry!)

For foundation application, i would recommend a sponge, the same as the beauty blender. I think using a brush or anything with bristles might encourage micro exfoliation causing the flakiness to be more apparent. IMO.
For my clients with a lot of flakiness, what i usually do is rub a little bit of Argan balm on the area, it just automatically 'hydrates' for lack of a better word the skin and it looks less flaky giving the foundation a better look. :) goodluck!

I have eczema and organic shea butter has been amazing at restoring moisture and healing broken skin. I would recomend only using it at night or when you are not wearing makeup. Out of Africa is a good brand and is available online or at your local vitamin store.

I use this product for red and cracked skin...It's called A+D Ointment. It's for diaper rash. It's for baby booties but it's soo healing for any scaly or dry and cracked skin. Lips too. But it does stink a bit. Use this before bed:)
It's about $7 dollars at Walmart in the baby section.

It takes a bit longer, but i like applying my founation by putting it on the back of y hand then dabbing it with my finger tip and then putting it on my face. It warms it up a bit when you put it on the back of your hand, so its easier to apply. Ive never used a brush, but ive always heard they were good. I wouldnt use a sponge though. I used some for a while and they dried my face out a little and made dry spots dryer. lol. I would love to see your pics but the link isnt working.

Aloevera is good for calming irritated skin, have never used it on my face but I do use it on my neck/chest for reddness ( i have very sensitive skin and my seatbelt causes a red blotch across the skin it rubs when i drive)

Go to your doctor. You don't want to harm your skin by continuing to test different products. You may need to try more natural products/remedies. Try using Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Pure Coconut Oil. Research natural remedies based on the issues you're having and try those. Eucerin is also good. This cream is suggested for people with ezigma, also.

Try a new routine and use less products, go for a more natural outlook. I use the off-brand(equate)beauty lotion with vitamin a&e and aloe vera gel for my face and it clears my scabs in 2 days, scars in about a week and a half. The trick is to never irriate your face to much, it just causes more breakouts/redness/flaking. Also for my acne wash I use Netrogena naturals facial bar soap, and a BP gel treatment called Acanya I also only exfoliate with raw oats. :)

I know there are many techniques to putting on foundation and whatnot, but I found that the easiest way to get flawless skin for me, is to apply with a sponge... You know, those white cheese-looking ones! :) You can get a pack of like 40 for like $5 at Wal-Mart or wherever. I apply concealer first and then put the foundation over it, to lock in the camouflage of flawless pimple/bags/discoloration. Then all you need to do is put some foundation/bb cream on the top of your hand, and gently dab the sponge in and pretty much smooth it onto your face. Super simple, and easiest way to not have to use a brush or anything complicated. Although I suggest using powder on top just to ensure that flawless finish. Simple and easy, while still giving you a perfect face :)

Here's a homemade remedy I learned about when I took a chemical peeling course. It is also used in many burn wards to heal and sooth skin. Brew a strong Camomile tea. Let the tea cool and mix with cooking cream. Dampened a washcloth with the mixure, put the washcloth on your face, and relax for awhile...Inexpensive and easy!!!!

There is a good way to get your skin hydrated with out clogging your pores. Use aloe vera gel or just the aloe plant itself. I recomend the gel you can get it at walmart in the lotion section. The natural plant gel itself is very sticky and can irritate sensative skin. The gel at walmart is refreshing and has no smell. :) worked great for me and I get really dry sport arounnd my mouth and nose. :)

Nivea darling for dry, red, crack, sore or broken skin its a miracle worker. Also if the skin is really sore try E45 cream apply it at night if you can and it'll seal the skin, it tends to be a bit greasy mind so apply it when you are not planning on going anywhere xx
