I use an antibacterial hand soap. Kills germs and banishes any oils that were on the brush.

It depends on the kind of bristles. if they're synthetic ill use a bit of dawn and then do a final rinse with alcohol but if they're some kind of animal hair/fur then I use baby shampoo and then a light rinse of conditioner. regardless of the bristle type make super to lay them flat to dry or bristles hanging down (this is really the best option). when brushes dry facing up the moisure pools at the base of he bristles and are much more likely to get mold and rot out.
