I think their point was to not make it look so contrasted. Ex: brown lipliner and nude lips.. And it looks like you blended your lip line and lipstick to make one ombre color which is probably not what maybelline is implying.

It was also probably supppsed to be well meant tip. Not an order :) I'm sure people won't read it and be forced to do as they say. Feel free to express youref however you like.  :)

It really makes them look lame and behind the times. Kim - beautiful work!

@Anna C, I know it was only probably meant light heatedly but it was just the way they worded it came across as something a bitchy teen would say and not a 'tip' from a big makeup brand

Maybe they are trying to present themselves as a classic company. Trends change constantly. Who knows in a few years you could be looking back at your pictures thinking "omg I can't believe I thought that looked good" for example almost ever woman who came out of the 80s. Hello crazy blue eyeshadow.

Who are you to tell a company how they should market themselves? If you don't like what they have to say maybe you are not their targeted shopper and should just buy a different brand. Let's be honest, losing a few sales on $5 lip liner or lipstick is not going to phase a company that big.

Kim, in your pic, isn't the lip liner of the same color as your lipstick :/ sorry, but I guess they meant not using a brown something lip liner with pink lipstick..believe me, I've seen people do that!

@Cindy C. I'm not telling them how to market themselves, I'm saying that it's bad for any big company (or anyone at all, tbh) to be making people feel bad about the way they choose to do their makeup or anything else of that nature.
Yavnika, it's a plum liner with a pale pink lipstick. I've seen lots of combinations of dark/different coloured liners with lighter lipsticks for an ombré effect and a lot of them look nice. A chocolate brown blended into a pale pink would look nice too IMO lol.

A cosmetics company doesn't have any buisness telling women what they can and do with make up, just because it doesn't fit in with the "rules" Of course darker liner can look dodgy, but so can badly applied foundation so can wearing colours that don't flatter your complexion. In fact just about every product has the potential to be unflattering depending on the way it is applied and who on.

Umm... Taking it too personally are we?

It's just like giving someone tips...

I am surprised they would say that because its trending right now to wear darker colors in the outer corners. Its also nothing new, Marilyn Monroe did it to make her lips look heart shaped and full. Kim, your darker pink liner looks absolutely gorgeous and I completely agree with you. Since its inception as a commonly used product in America (especially 1920s) makeup has been about expressing yourself and doing things the way you want to.

I don't think anyone is taking it too personally Kaitlin. The job of a cosmetics company is to sell products not to dispense potentially hurtful "advice" personally don't wear liner at all but those kind of comments could make people who do feel bad, especially when said comments are backed up by people agreeing them. We don't have any say other what people put on their own face.

I'm way to distracted by how perfect your makeup is Kim. Absolutely gorgeous! But they shouldn't tell anybody how to do their makeup. Everybody has their own thing and they should do what they love and makes them feel good.

That's so weird especially since ombré lip is so in right now.

Yah I think darker liner (but only like a shade or two darker than the lip color and/or shade or two darker than your skin color) works great for contouring purposes so iono wtf maybelline is talking about but agree the wording is not very friendly if they were giving advice they should say it is a tip but not in a way that is condescending like that.

Wow wth, that is kinda irritating...especially since ombre is such a popular trend right now..

Okay... Like seriously? It's like looking up make up tips! Exactly like it! You don't HAVE to follow it but its just suggested they are professionals. Ombré is different obviously. If the liner is blended to make an ombré obviously. But when it's just a straight up line all around your light lip.. Uh no. Seriously though I wouldn't take it personally. You can do whatever you want but they know what they are talking about and are just trying to help everyone so you don't look like a hot mess!
