There's Sally's & sephora has more name brands & expensive makeup where as Ulta does have name brands too but also has drugstore makeup & more of a variety.

I'm with Tiffany! It's so hard to choose between the two because each have their own perks. I really do like the customer service I get at Sephora though. My nearest Ulta needs a little work in that department lol.

Sephora for the rewards and VIB treatment and ulta for the wider selection of cheaper cosmetics that are comparable to more high end stuff.

I like the bonuses offered at Sephora. They're more fun than what Ulta offers. I also like the higher end selection at Sephora better as well as their house brand makeup.

I'm a Sephora girl myself, but there's a new Ulta by me and I wanted to check it out!! I've been to Ulta before, I actually think I have a membership card with them but I don't know where it is (guess my loyalty is with Sephora, haha) I just remember Ulta had a lot more to offer as far as hair tools, I'm looking for a new curling iron or wand! So I was thinking Ulta

I think if you need informed help, or are interested in getting samples, Sephora or a department store is the way to go. If you want to be left alone (ignored) then Ulta is perfect for that. LOL and personally I sometimes do just want to browse without being bothered. The customer service definitely is lacking at Ulta. Understaffed as well.

I agree about ulta lacking in customer service, in sephora ppl are all over me in ulta it's like nothing

Tiffany you are so right! 100% Ulta needs way better customer service, more intelligent.ahem...I'm sorry more qualified personnel to work there - people that actually use the products (maybe it's just my store I don't know but they also bombard me as soon as I walk in the door with 5 employees asking me at the same time if I need help and when I ask a question- they're dumbfounded I swear and say I don't know a lot...plus they're really rude), but Ulta is great for both high end and drugstore which is great for the variety, and I really like that! Besides their drugstore selection is crazy ridiculously big. Although I do love Sephora, especially for their MUFE line & their brushes but I wish it wasn't just high end, and they had more stores by me! (- I live in a pretty well known big city and the closest Sephora is very small inside of JcPenny's...ugh!) But I also love going to the Mac counter at my Dillard's, and Sally's beauty supply- but not really for makeup because they only really sell femme couture and paladio- and paladio isn't really that great of quality...although I've found some smaller local beauty supply stores I'm dying to go to & wish there was more of them so we didn't have to just choose between Sephora and Ulta, although- (again this could just be my area) but my Target's makeup selection has really stepped it's game up; they have a lot of new brands and a huge selection; including samples of a lot of their makeup!! So overall to me it's like comparing apples to oranges here they're two totally different stores, but if I had to pick one hmm...Ulta! I love the variety and one stop shop I can get the best of both worlds, and just ignore the employees ;) wow I talk too much- haha sorry this was soo long &ranting! xoxo.

I agree Amanda ulta is great for both high end and drugstore items but I'm a sephora addict lol and I really love there point perks.

I like Ulta, but then again, it's been a while since I've been to a Sephora, there aren't any near where I live. And maybe this is just me, but I LOVE to be left alone while I shop, I even think the salespeople at my local Ulta are a bit too pesky sometimes. :-P If I need help, I'll ask for it, but I prefer to do my own research on potential purchases before going into the store (and sometimes even while I'm in the store, I'll pull out my phone and look products up online), rather than just relying on what a salesperson has to say about it.

I really love both! I always grew up with TONS of Sephoras in my area (north Jersey/Manhattan) and only far away Ulta stores, now I only have large Ulta stores in my area and small Sephoras (inside JC Penny), so I rely on Ulta more.

its funny because I have consistently prefer Ulta's customer service over Sephora's customer service! I love the variety at both shops, they each carry many things that the other does not. I do like the drugstore options that Ulta carries, I almost always leave with a couple extra Nyx products or Ulta brand products I didn't plan on because they have the cheaper options for me... I always spend more at Ulta because of this. I like that Ulta has TONS of travel cases, hair styling tools, hair products, dyes, and nail polish... much more extensive than I've ever seen at any Sephora, even the couple of larger ones in Manhattan. Since I buy more from Ulta, I have benefitted more from their rewards program

It's all about Ulta, 100%!! I don't think I'll ever go inside of a Sephora again!

@Natalie I'm in the north jersey area too!! Haha I agree with you that Ulta has more options for hair products and I love that! @Jennifer why do you say that??

In Raleigh/Durham the Ultas are either stand alone stores or in a strip center while Sephora is inside the mall, which can be a pain getting too in holiday season. Sephora has more high-end brands, but for a quick trip, Ulta is best. I was somewhat dismayed when an Ulta clerk made a snide comment earlier this year when I went in looking for CC cream. Her comment was about someone my age keeping up with beauty trends!

Wow @Beth the audacity of people these days! It seems that Ulta has to step up their customer service all over the states!

Shepora, but I like both.
