How could I possibly get my hair back to one color if I have the loreal ombre dye on my hair. I'm trying to use box color at home. help!

Try using two boxes :-) one for the bottom (thoroughly dye it) and then one for the top, but the top must me slightly lighter than what you're using on the top since your bottom is already light!

Than what you're using on the bottom*

Box coloring ombre was not the best way to do that. ombre is hard to get out without the use of the right color. if your insistent on using box color I suggest you color correct it, you can buy stuff that strips all the color, then color it slightly darker than what your intended color is. and pray for the best! lol but only do that if you absolutely can't go to the salon! stuff like that is super hard on your hair!

If I buy a lighter shade overall will it only lighten the bottom? which would mean I'd still have the ombre style but just a lighter shade, right??

Why don't you just cut off the ends?

I heard ombré was hard to get out once you get it try asking a professional.

No way of telling anything unless you post clear, color pics of it. You could have so many different issues with unwanted orange/red undertones, and also what is your goal "overall color"? Most likely a box color is not the way to go, I wouldn't rush into anything. Post pics. a Demi permanent is most likely the best answer, but there's nothing to go off of from just what you're saying.

Lol come on nothing wrong with short hair! :P no but when I had blonde highlights that I didn't like I used a color toner in brunette to make it more brown and then washed with john Frieda brunette shampoo/conditioner to help and it definitely toned down the blonde so try that see if it helps.

Because ombre is a light on the ends there isnt a way to "get it out" if you don't want it you have to add color back into it. and I 100% agree with Todd. you have to show what you have and the color you want to achieve.

That's not bad at all! Definitely DO NOT TOUCH the top, virgin hair. No need to do that. Hard to tell exactly what you've got, but it doesn't look like it needs much darkening to be evened out. Get something at a beauty supply store, sallys, etc. and tell them you want a Demi permanent ash brown color to blend in your ombre. too hard to tell how dark your roots are from this pic, but you just slap it on the lighter areas only. I'm guessing medium ash brown. It's fine if the ends remain a little lighter, awful if you go too dark on the ends. medium ash should be enough pigment to tone down the warmth and blend it all in. But ask for their help if you've got a place like that near you.

What would be even easier is to get Aveda Black Walnut conditioner and use it as if it's a hair color. If you can get that, do that because then you will always be able to touch it up as it fades, no damage either. Just put it only on the area that are lighter. It's expensive-Ish, but lasts a long time. Hth.

Yes it's very helpful. ill just go to sallys. I'm still debating on how exactly I want to change it. :(

Its not that I don't like it. I actually love it. and I had it done by someone that's a professional but with box color cause that's what I wanted. I'm just trying to venture out to new colora and styles which is why I asked about getting it a sole color. but I'm looking at my options. thank you.

If you're looking for versatility, then definitely get the Aveda Black Malva conditioner (not the shampoo). You will only be able to get it at an Aveda salon or a salon that sells Aveda. Google salons in your area or order online. with this, you can let it fade out, or even go over the entire head to darken and take the red out if your natural color has any. No fear of damaging your hair, and if you want to bring back your ombre, then use a strong , clarifying shampoo, and a hot oil treatment to pull out the color deposited by the conditioner. Just don't use it too often as the more porous lightened ends can grab the color and then it's harder and takes longer too get out. It's great stuff. Well worth the $18 or so.

Oh that sounds like the best idea yet. thanks!! it sounds like what I was exactly looking for. :)

Be careful with the black malva conditioner cause it can leave a blueish/ greenish tint on your hair If you leave it on too long or use it too often!

That's true, Megan, but that's usually on lighter shades of brown or when you aren't trying to neutralize red or orange tones. So I think it's safe for medium-to dark browns that have unwanted red or brassy tones. Definitely you have to use a timer with it. Not longer than 5 minutes the first time, and not after every washing. Once or twice a week. Those instructions are on the tube, so just stick to those. You don't look like you have any light ashy brown or dark blonde, so I think Altair will be ok, just follow the instructions and use a timer, don't wing it. Think of it as a hair color for your lightened areas.
