I'm going to attempt water marble nails, is it essential to put tape on your nails? Also does it still work if you start with a clear base?

Tape isnt a must but without it tge cleanup will be very long. clear base will work but the colors will be dull.

I painted mine with a white base when I did my neon water marble. And tape helps greatly although it can be a pain. Also instead of white you can use one of the colors you are dropping into the water as a base. Here is a water marble I did, I used tape around my fingers but as you can see some clean up around the edges is still required.

Thanks guys! I did them like this a few months ago... It took about two hours all together. And like Tia said, it is hard to find polishes that spread easily in the water. I almost gave up bc all my clear ones wouldn't spread, then I tried a sheer gold, which allowed the neon colors to still look vibrant and added a nice shimmer. It's all about trial an error :) good luck Jen, and definitely post pics when you are done!

I found that any polish that looks thick in the bottle generally doesn't work for me. I hate to use tape so I use vaseline and after I dip my finger in the water just wipe the vaseline off.
