My best friend is getting married and though she doesn't necessarily have a tight budget, she's beed having a hard time justifying spending a few thousand dollars on a dress she is going to wear for one day. She has mentioned renting wedding dresses, but I am kind of skeptical about this method of obtaining a dress. I'm not sure how legitimate that can actually be (especially through the internet). I have also been looking into pre-owned dresses to see if I can find some of the dresses we liked for a discounted price, but I am also very suspicious of how legitimate some of these websites can be. If we can't find anything, I think she will end up going with the full priced dresses, but if I can get any information about experiences, that would be greatly appreciated!
Do any of you have any experience with a rented or pre-owned wedding dress? Were they good or bad? Do you have any tips for us when looking for a pre-owned dress or rental option? Any other tips or comments?
Thanks ladies!

I thought of that option and found a place that provided everything the dress and all the accessories for about $275+ which was a great deal but I ended up just getting a dress on sale at David's bridal - but my wedding was very small and I didn't have much money to spend on a dress like my budget was to be under $300 there are cheaper dresses out there if she doesn't have to be a Couture bride

I agree with Diana try David Bridal I found a beautiful dress on sell for 100$ had some adjustments made to it, just taken in a little, and the Bra pads added, and a long beautiful bow around my waste all adding up to just about 300$!! So if you have one near by you should suggest it to your friend, they also gave me a deal through mens wearhouse for my husband, dad, and groomsmens tuxes!!.

David's Bridal is your best bet for cheap, trust me, I work there. :D There are sales constantly but the $100 sale only goes on every once in awhile and its always on discontinued dresses so if its not in your store and in your size you aren't out of luck, there will just be extra work for your consultant and possibly more worrying for you. But there are cheaper dresses and the DB studio line is $300 and under.

Thanks ladies, really beautiful dresses!! That's really great, my bride and I will have to check out David's Bridal if we don't get our first choice =)
We haven't tried David's Bridal yet because we already found a bunch of dresses we loved so we're really just figuring out if we can get around paying $3,000 for the specific dress since its on the higher end of the budget by renting the dress we found or using someone else's. That's why I was wondering about rentals or pre-owned... since we have a specific dress or two picked out and we're willing to buy it full priced if we have to. But I'm trying to research alternatives since she isn't so interested in preserving it or anything.

I always see wedding dresses in the charity shops here in ireland, try browsing through the thrift shops or you can ring them before hand and enquire as to whether they stock any before you go in. also I haggle on prices for everything. if its a bridal store itself then try get the shoes and accessories thrown in for free, might make it not feel like such a high amount for a dress if she can get a few things with it for free as part of the package.

Omg my friend wen she got married paid 60 bucks for her wedding dress. Guess where she got it from?? Good ol trusty EBAY :-) she said that unfortunately the lady selling it didnt end up gettin married n said in her ad. "my loss is your gain" kinda sad but may jus be somethin to look into. I almost did the same thing myself I had found my "supposed dream dress" but my mom n husband wanted me to get a $1,000 dress so I did. (he payed for it so I didnt mind lol) but no lie look it up they have some beautiful dresses for 100 something dollars n whatnot just depends on wht your friend likes :-)
