Practice! Try every look on every face shape that you can. Work on getting a book together to showcase your work. Decide what kind of make up artist you want to be: special fx, beauty/weddings, ect. Youtube is one of the greatest places to get some free education and a counter job will give you so much hands on experience. traditional schooling and paying work can be hard to come by but the more you put yourself out there for the experience the easier it will be to get to the paid jobs later on.

Getting a license or certification will be helpful for you though. look into any make up classes at a community college near by, there should be something attached to theater classes. these will give you a strong foundation.

As Dina said, create a portfolio and if possible, try hiring a local photographer to take photos of the work youve done. Also, get your name out there. Create business cards and hand them out to the people in your area (friends, family, familys friend, beauty salons, etc.) Going to school for makeup artistry and recieving a certificate would be a big help but if you decide not to, purchase some makeup books to learn the basic fundamentals. Kevin Aucoin books has a great selection. Once you have some hands on experience start creating your resume. Good luck and stay motivated girl! :)

Practice and practice. Depend on what category you want to get into. Do you just want beauty/creative or you want to get into film? If just beauty it's pretty easy. I would suggest to take a basic makeup course. It's always better you have an instructor. Even though you may know most of it, but to become a pro, we all have to start from the basic. There will be something you may not know yet. Good luck :)
