I have brown hair with light brown highlights, if I use a light red (cheryl cole red shade) box dye on this do you think it will turn out okay?

Sure! Just be careful. Box dyes can be unpredictable sometimes!!

That's more of a dark red like auburn, and I don't know about box dyes but when you dye your hair the hi lights will come out lighter then your brown hair.
