Get a permanent red box dye (loreal ferria colour is good) dye it with that first and then touch up wuth your semi permanent to get abit more vibrancy =] thats what I do =]

I've used manic panic to dye my hair red and it didn't last long even though I bleached my hair before hand too. But I got an awesome bright red from Sally's but you'll have to bleach your hair before

I used manic panic all through high school I had purple And green Highlights mine lasted and and took really well even over my black hair dye without bleaching
