Painting over my fake nails??

I got gel acrylic nails and they're starting to grow out but not enough to go get them redone. I'm wondering that if I painted them, will they turn out shit?
I'm too scared to try it incase they do because its painful to rip the nails off.

I think they will look the way they are only with paint over them
