Trust me, you don't want it numbed. they very deliberately don't numb it so you can feel it and tell them if simmering seems wrong.

I am a trained piercer. You do not get numbed. There is no need because the needle should be brand new, sterile and super sharp. You will be marked with a special pen for the placement you like, then depending on the piercing you want your piercer might place clamps to hold the skin in place. Most people say this is the most discomfort they feel during the whole process. You'll feel a quick pinch of the needle and before you know it you will have a gorgeous new piece of jewelry in place.
Any swelling or pain after its pierced can be controlled with ibuprofen.
Your piercer will tell you how they recommend you take care of it.
And don't forget to tip them!
