Hey Jessica! Is your hair chemically damaged at all?

I don't know if it's even possible to do it alone, you're really dark..and without a really big amount of bleach you can color it a bunch of times and nothing will happen..since you're that dark I would suggest go to a hair salon or wait till you get the money for it.cuz you will damage it but at the salon they'll minimalize the damage. so; blonde yes but only at the salon!

When I went from dark to blonde my hair stylist did a heavy foil highlites..it's a little longer process to become all blonde but I felt like it was worth it.

You definitely need to go to a salon. I know you don't want to spend a ton of money so perhaps you can go in and ask for a full head of heavy highlights and gradually add more over time to become as blonde as you'd like.

If you use a neutral protein filler on damp hair 20 mins before you bleach it and use ions creme lightener with Argan oil and a 40 developer (your hair is so dark you will probably need to process twice depending on your results), this is the only bleach that has taken my hair up so fast without heat or damage. The protein filler is really important because it helps the color come out even and helps to prevent the bleach from taking the protein in your hair now- also use this before a toner and depending on the shade of blonde you want will depend on the toner. I would never bleach without a toner... Use a purple based one for platinum/white hair, a blue based one for platinum/to take out yellow-brashness, or you can simply use a color (do not use a box color- use a color from a beauty supply store) as a toner like an ash blonde, strawberry blonde, etc. make sure you deep condition once to twice a week, don't wash your hair more than twice a week with blonde hair (bc it's going to make your hair so dry you want your natural oils from your scalp to moisturize your hair), avoid heat styling (blowdryer, hot water, straightener, curling wand, etc) as much as possible, and use a wide tooth comb on your hair when it's wet. Also make sure you get a trim after bleaching so your hair will be healthier! The list does go on tho... Having blond hair is high matinence and that doesn't just mean with color because it will take a lot to keep your hair in a good condition because bleaching it will strip all of the melanin and nutrients out of your hair.. It's something to consider. Also be careful not to over process the highlighted parts of your hair- you can use conditioner on the parts you don't want color to go on too! Hope I helped!

Try going to a school. I go to cosmetology school right now n we would charge you like 75 to do your hair blonde. try looking up Kenneth shulers, Paul mitchells, or encores around you. they will have instructors helping them.

They're quoting you $300 because it's a BIG JOB! Which also translates to.. Don't try this at home! Go to a hairschool if you wanna save the bucks.

I feel like people are over reacting. first of all, going blonde isnt even that hard. you just need to read up on what your doing. secondly, if you go to a salon, I feel like 300 is waaaaay over priced. I went to the salon once in my life and got two toned dye job (black and blonde) and it was 180. go to a beautyschool for sure. at empire beauty schools they charge 20$. which woulf be the same price of buying all the supplys to do your hair yourself.

Don't do it yourself. You cannot bleach over the pieces that are already blonde. A hairstylist is going to have to pick them out , foil them, & bleach around them. Maybe bleach again depending on how much colour you have on there. Then tone. I sometimes almost suggest doing a boatload of highlights to get you there slowly instead of bleaching the entire thing. You'll still have some dark pieces in between but you'll basically be blonde, and still have some healthy hair. Then keep getting more highlights every few months or so. It also helps with the regrowth & upkeep if you don't have a solid line @ your roots every 3 weeks ;)

It's a big LONG process to do on your own. Especially if you've never done it before. I honestly think you'd be happiest starting with a full head of highlights and going from there.

I should point out to every single person who has said go to the salon, or to a school-A few years ago, I went to paul mitchell to get full headed highlights in my hair and the girl color cut my hair...if you don't know what that means it's when your hair basically boils in the foil and it breaks off giving you a haircut from the bleach...that being said, mistakes can happen at a salon very easily, even going to a nice one like paul mitchell. Besides, most salons will most likely make you sign a waver (and you have to at any school to get a color process done) that they aren't responsible if your hair is ruined or doesn't come out the way they want because no matter what bleaching your hair is a big job- but like some other people said, if you do your research it is possible. Just make sure you use the ion oil lightener like I said above, it won't dry on your hair like other powder bleaches and also you cannot use any heat with it (which is what accelerates damage, and the risk of your hair boiling in foil- or the bleach drying on your hair), and don't leave the bleach on longer than 45 minute sittings (even if it takes 2 or more times- it will in a salon too), make sure you use a toner afterwards, get a lot of aftercare for your hair (deep conditioning masks, protein treatments, etc), and invest in two different shampoo and conditioners (you'll need a purple shampoo&conditioner which will help keep the yellow/brasiness out of your hair, but these can be drying so you won't want to use it every single day/time you wash your hair- and then another deep conditioning shampoo/conditioner, and that means no drugstore ones...I would suggest fekkai or bedhead)
ALSO you can bleach over the blonde pieces in your hair already, depending on the blonde color you want to achieve- those pieces are not that light, and probably won't match your bleached hair.
Your hardest problem will be to get the red tones out of it because when you bleach it- it may not lighten/completely remove the red tones which will leave it a pink color, first hand it took me two bleachings to get pink out of my hair. Hope that helps!
