I use a tooth pick! Not a pointy one, just a normal shaped one.

I use a bobby pin that I just spread open or or one of those sewing pins with the bubble on the top ( I don't know the technical term) stuck in the eraser of a pencil. That will also give you 2 different sized dotting tools.
