Every time I try to do my own nails/toes, it doesn't turn out as good... and they always smudge. What am I doing wrong/what should I do to get a "salon worthy" home mani? Any special products?

Practise practise practise! I'd say that's a huge part of it. If it's smudging when they feel dry to the touch, you may be putting on the coats too thick, and/or not waiting enough time between each coat. You could also try a dry fast top coat/spray, but in my experience they aren't miracle workers and the polish csnt br too tacky to the touch. I recently started using Sèche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat and I find it really helps. I use it about 5-10 minutes after my final coat of colour and it helps remove the tacky feeling. In general, it's also the best top coat I've ever used in terms of maintaining chip-free nails. That said, if you're putting on a top coat and colour (a tiny bit is ok) is coming onto the brush, the polish probably wasn't dry enough.

I'm also a HUGE believer in thin coats. I'd always rather do 3 think coats to get he colour right than to do 2 coats a bit thicker. Try that!
