How do I stop my mascara from clumping?

How do I get my mascara to stop clumping? I always see all my friends with this beautiful mascara job that highlights each of their eyelashes, but mine always ends up clumped together. I've tried scraping off most of the mascara on my stick, and an eyelash brush and I'm SURE that I'm using it right.
Can anyone help me? :/

If you find your mascara clumping take a mascara wand with no product (brand new and that has.never even touched mascara) and go through your lashes while wiggling the brush, I do this when ever I get a clump =)

According to my fav YouTube guru, you must let each coat dry before applying the next. Applying coat after coat on wet lashes causes clumping.

Try a different wand. Different wands have different effects. If you love your friends eyelashes, ask them what mascara they use. I personally love cover girls clump crusher.
