I get small breakouts even when I do wash my face religiously, so I pretty much ALWAYS have to wash, tone, moisturize and spot treat nightly. Even on those nights where I've had a few drinks and want to go to bed ASAP, I still make time to complete my face routine.

The best thing you can do is get in the habit of taking your makeup off. Keep makeup wipes by your bed if you have to as a reminder. I would try to clean with more than makeup wipes though. They don't get all the makeup out of your skin, they just wipe it off, there will still be residue left and makeup in your pores. It's better than nothing but you aren't getting a proper clean. You have to really try to not be lazy because keeping up with washing and moisturizing your face is the only thing that's going to keep it looking and feeling nice. There's no miracle product, you have to spend the time taking care of it properly. If you have to put a reminder/alarm on your phone that will remind you each night. Or take makeup off as soon as you know you're home for the night. Don't wait until you're tired and don't feel like it.

A couple hours before I go to sleep I take off my eye makeup, and then wash my face using my Clarisonic and then I moisturize my face and use a spot treatment.

I do and not only has it cleared my acne but I now have a perfectly balanced, non greasy face. In the morning it‘s just rinsing withwith cold water and no soap then apply my spectro jel cleanser for combo skin.
At night, I remove my makeup with basic soap (Dove) and cleanser (I love Spectro jel for blemish prone skin. After I‘m dry, I apply macademia nut oil to really nourish my skin (It‘s non greasy and it similar to what our skin produced as babies which made our skin so soft and plump). Once that‘s settled I apply the same moisturizer I did in the morning.

I truely believe my routine works. I was super greasy and covered in acne and it didn‘t matter what I did (I tried baking soda, egg masks, everything natural and even pro active) but now I feel so confident in my skin (: Good luck

The reason your skin is oily is because your skin is dry (I know, backwards, right?) Your skin is over compensating for the dryness by producing more oil, so the key to balancing your skin tone and treating your acne is to moisturize, which is why the macademia nut oil is so important combined with a good moisturizer and a cleanser to really clean out the makeup. (:

Caitlin: going to try putting reminder on my phone...think it would help..
Natalie: I think you're right about the oily skin theory.. definitely trying out that macademia nut oil..
Thank you girls!! :)

I agree with Natalie's suggestion with using oil as a moisturizer. Usually I mention it but I guess I didn't for the sake of keeping my already long post a little shorter lol. But I use maracuja oil on occasion and it has helped balance my oil levels quite a bit. When I use it I wake up with soft, non-oily skin. You can use any natural oil like the macadamia Natalie suggested, maracuja, argan, coconut, etc. Just make sure it's a natural oil. Not baby oil or anything like that, those are man made and contain chemicals. You also want to clean out any and all makeup that gets stuck in the pores. I prefer high end for a lot of things honestly. But if I see something that catches my eye or hear good things about a drugstore product I'll buy it. I don't always have the money for high end but I definitely prefer it. Especially when it comes to foundation and eyeliner. Every drugstore foundation I've ever bought makes me cringe. It's always such an oily mess and I can't use it. It works for others but not for me. I would rather spend say $30 on a few high end products than $30 at the drugstore for products that I can't see or test before buying and that I may not have any luck with. I've very rarely not been satisfied with anything high end I've bought. I have made only one return/exchange and it wasn't even makeup, it was perfume. I do find that the quality is better with a lot of high end products. But that doesn't mean there aren't still crappy products out there. A bad product is just bad no matter where it comes from. You could also try a face mask once or twice a week (within a couple days of each other, not one day after another, that can be drying) to get rid of any buildup. I suggest a Clarisonic skin cleansing brush to everyone now that I have one myself, but I understand that it's not an option for everyone at any given time because it is a pricey investment. For a while I also didn't have the money for one but now that I have one I don't know how I lived without it. They say it cleans 6 times better than your hands and it really does. I used to always have at least a little makeup left over on the cotton pad when I used toner after cleansing my skin and now there's nothing after using the Clarisonic. So it really does get everything out and provides exfoliation at the same time. Olay makes a skin cleansing brush as well called the Pro-X for $30 which is much cheaper than the Clarisonic. I don't know how well it works though as I haven't tried it for myself. But it might be worth looking into once you get in the habit of having a nightly routine. I'd see how that goes first before investing in either.

Have combi skin as well but I live in the tropics so my routine might not work the same way for you. I only use 3 products at night. The tiny bottle there (Erase) though, I only use when I have pimples. But I think it is locally made. But it really dries pimples fast - like 3 days max.
