If it's brittle I would cut it. You'd look great with a lob! I had my hair cut into one back in December and I loooove it.

I'd say go for the lob! Your hair will look and be much healthier once you cut it and it's always fun to try a new look! Good luck :-)

So I would recommend go to the lob (at last there are many ideas of this hair style http://newaylook.com/best-lob-haircut/
A castor/olive oil overnight treatment seems to help my hair break less. Also, when I sleep I put my hair - which is almost middle of back long in a large fluffy scrunchies which is not too tight. I do a low ponytail with one scrunchie and then a couple inches down another scrunchie and so on. You might try this if you haven't already.
