What would you do? Never told it won't take dye before!

I have been using ion 6 red w/ 10 vol for a while. I don't use heat often. I'm pretty nice to my hair. Recently I decided to chop off about 8 inches and go to natural root color (light ash brown). A trusted hairdresser said she could do it as a correction and put some lighter pieces. She ended up highlighting tons of my hair, then applying color and saying that none of it took. She also darkened my roots for some ungodly reason (I was trying to grow it out!) I went back once, she applied toner. What now? Thinking of just going back to red to grow out the crappy highlights. First pic is after first trip, then after second salon treatment, and now after one wash.

Trying to add a pic of it now, it's not great. The red infront on me new growth? Oh hats color remover from the dark brown :(

I recently had a horrible dye job (blonde versus a light brown); if you are comfortable with the idea, I'd contact the salon and speak with the owner. Yes, the hairdresser was trusted, but after 2 trips, your fair isn't what you asked for. If you don't even want to deal with that, I'd probably dye over, although I don't know what the best method would be. Good luck!
