I'm new to make up and I have no idea how to properly apply make up to my face without making it look cakey. Whenever I try to apply foundation onto my face it ends up looking very cakey and unnatural, I use the Clinique 2-in-1 foundation and use a foundation brush to blend it out, I tend to dab and then wipe it outwards, I also use orange color corrector under my foundation because I have uneven skin tone and I've noticed that my foundation looks kind of orange when I use the corrector and I can see some of the color corrector peeking out, and if I don't use color corrector my foundation tends to look grey on the areas I have uneven skin tone. I only use moisturizer before applying foundation. Also my face is pretty smooth, I don't have too many bumps, but I always have one or two pimples in between my eyebrows and whenever I put foundation on that area it look's really dry and patchy and it's really noticeable, also my foundation looks very streaky as well andd my pores near my nose always show through even though they're small! I know that was a lot of problems and I'm probably making a lot of mistakes! But I don't know where to start, any tips on how to get better and how to avoid cake face?

Well, what I do is I put my foundation on and then I put a power over it and then I spray setting spray on my face and push the setting spray into the foundation. It gives a nice and natural glow for me and makes that annoying peach fuzz go away

Oh I used a beauty blender for foundation and to push the setting spray in :)

I use that foundation! I use the applicator with it to dab all over my face then blend it out with a beauty blender. I blend blend blend way longer than necessary and it definitely makes a difference

Depending on your skin type, use a primer that's right for your skin, and use a beauty blender. when I was mixing my two foundations that were matte, to look less cakey adding lotion or moisturizer will make it less cakey looking. I don't recommend using a brush at all, or setting it with powder that had pigment.

Definitely start using a primer. Make sure you're blending in your color corrector before applying your foundation. Don't swipe upwards with your brush, blend downwards. If patting motions aren't working for you then try buffing in the foundation with your brush. Less is more so add a little foundation at a time and build up if needed.

Tips:
start off with small amounts (if you feel you need more coverage add a little)
use a primer
wash your face and moisturize
spray your face with a setting spray before and after make up application

That foundation can get cakey very easily. I use a real techniques sponge to blend it in after dabbing it on as well.

I agree with Dia - cakiness is most often caused by using too much product - you shouldn't need more than a pea sized amount for your whole face - start with like a drop of product and work it in and blend it and then layer on more if needed - but no more than the amount of a pea - also make sure you allow your moisturizer to set before applying any makeup as well - the more products you use (color corrector, concealer, foundation, etc) the more cakey it's going to look - so that old saying that less is more couldn't be more true - and as the previous beauties mentioned - blending is a key part to properly applying makeup
