Hi everyone,

I have tried numerous foundations and primers and I have very dry skin. After applying my foundation my skin looks not cakey but not natural and numerous dry spots. Any suggestions on how to prevent that or good foundations for dry skin?

I know that a lot of people say that coconut oil clogs yours pores but it actually clears my acne and keeps my skin moisturized. I mix coconut oil, salt/sugar, and jojoba oil and apply it on my face for about a minute and then I rinse it off...hope this helps.

I have been having super dry skin lately these last couple of weeks. I'm trying coconut oil for the first time. I haven't seen a drastic change, but it's been leaving my skin quite soft. I just bought some coconut sugar too and avocado oil and going to try and mix it all up and see if that's going to help.

I did read online if you mix coconut oil and jojoba oil it's supposed to help with dry skin a lot. I can't seem to find any of that in my local stores or targets so I can't do that, but I'm pretty sure that'll work.

Also, for under eye I've been using the shiseido eye cream. Expensive but I hope it helps cuz my skin does not look cute or normal with my makeup on and my face being all dry. That's why I'm trying all these methods.

Coconut oil is not just comodogenic it's not a good moisturizer for dry skin. it dissipates quickly and doesn't go very deep so you are dry again a few hours later. I swear by my facial oils (rosehip, tamanu, and jojoba) and embryolisse creme lait for hydration. I have had luck duh nothing else. and hydration is what it sounds like you need. if you are using a primer try skipping it. I am a firm believer that the best primer for dry skin is a good moisturizer. creating a silicone barrier between your skin and the foundation with a primer may help people with naturally oily skin but it can easily cause foundation to look cakey over time on dry skin. same with water and oil based primers. you don't want to create a barrier with dry skin, you want to get the skin ready so it doesn't "drink" the product in. this is why extra moisture before application can do wonders over the course of a day. exfoliation can help create a smoother surface for the foundation to rest on. I just discovered Sonia rossellis sexapeel a few weeks ago and it has changed the game for exfoliants. the stuff is worth every penny. before that I was fond of Paula's choice aha for my dry skin and flakes. I do use a washcloth to manually exfoliate but I wouldn't rely on manual exfoliation personally. make sure you are staying hydrating with plenty of water. just because it's not hot outside doesn't mean you don't need to drink up. as far as picking foundations, you'll want to avoid matte descriptors as that almost always means drying. a cream foundation like rcma or the hourglass stick are almost always best but a liquid can work too. and you want to avoid powder foundations. speaking of powder, skip that too. get a good setting spray like ben nyes, mufes, or graftobian instead. of you have oily spots cover those with a light not of powder but otherwise dry skin doesn't need it. luminous or dewy foundations usually agree with dry skin best but you can add a drop or two of facial oil to most foundations to make them a bit dewy. and it's always important to remember that less is more. start with a very light layer of foundation, no more than half a pea sized drop or so of liquid should be good for the whole face. and if you want more coverage build from there in light layers or change products (I prefer the second option, building can easily leave you looking unnatural and full coverage does NOT have to mean heavy looking)

I have dry skin and I swear by the Dr Jart Ceramidin line. I use the liquid morning and night and the cream at night (it's a bit too heavy for me under makeup). But by doing my heavy skincare at night, I wake up with my skin being refreshed and soft. I love the TF RX Hangover primer- it adds extra hydration. And MAC Fix+ adds some extra hydration over my moisturizer. Another primer I like is Becca Backlight primer. It adds a nice glow and luminosity. I like to use foundations that aren't too opaque- I prefer light to medium coverage.

I've read a lot of things lately about shaving your face with a tinkle eyebrow razor (see my most recent post) and apparently even if you don't use it for the purpose of getting rid of peach fuzz it actually really helps to exfoliate your face and if you watch any videos of it you can actually see all the dead skin cells just scraping away it's madness. However as I've mentioned on my post I don't know if it would make any peach fuzz hairs grow back darker or thicker so might not be the best idea

@mariana , I do the same thing with the coconut oil (solid) and sugar and it really does work!! I don't use salt cos it could sting any tiny cuts on my face & I don't use the jojoba oil cos I've never really heard of mixing that in but going to give it a try now you've mentioned it!
