Hi there! my daughter is turning 11 in January and just in the past few months she has been getting break outs on her forehead. She has not started her menstrual cycle yet. I've been having her wash her face with my Cerave hydrating cleanser but it hasn't helped. She's my oldest so I have no experience in treating acne in someone her age and I'm not sure what to do. I really don't want to start putting lots of chemicals and stuff on her skin. She's a little self concious about it. Any ideas on what she could use? Thanks!!

That's a great start I wouldn't add anything to it except maybe a light moisturizer... try upping her water intake that might help... I wouldn't eliminate any foods cuz of her age but if it gets worse I would talk to a dermatologist and tell them your concerns

Aryanna, she has normal skin. She hasn't shown any signs of oily skin or dry patches. Thanks ladies! I wasn't sure but I don't think the Cerave hydrating cleanser is geared towards treating acne?

Try getting her a gentle cleanser used for slight acne I use the botanics gentle foaming cleanser it's meant for combination skin it's all natural from plants and has helped my skin so much I would also have her get a lotion made for not drying out the skin but help keep the skin clear I use the aveeno clear complexion daily moisturizer and I love it it makes my skin so soft and does not dry it out but also also very gentle and helps with my breakouts hope I helped she'll get through it we all have breakouts now and then!:)

I would just get a spot treatment. And definitely start her using a moisturizer. Even just the cerave one :)
When I was a preteen my mom bought me the clean and clear spot treatment, in the clear and purple tube. I still use it 8 years later on breakouts lol. It's not very strong, its definitely geared towards gentler treatment than most. But if she just uses it sparingly on her breakouts it'll help them clear up quicker. It's such a hard thing to judge because she hasn't been able to experience what works with her skin yet, and it takes a while before you find something that works. I would advise against using anything strong though, just because she is younger and will see more sun, and likely isn't using sunblock every day and stronger products can increase sun sensitivity.
Also I just wanted to say that I wouldn't have guessed you had a 10 year old! You look really really great. :)

If she's experiencing pore issues now it's likely that they will continue and possibly worsen as she enters her teenage years and hormones get more intense.
I would recommend starting her on a steady routine of BHA + good sun protection.
BHA (salicylic acid) helps to smooth skin and clear pores, and good sun protection habits will help basically every skincare concern, as sun damage impairs your skin's ability to properly exfoliate, heal itself, age well, etc.
I'd check out Paula's Choice for her BHA products; they're having a 20% of cyber monday sale. Call their customer service line if you are unsure of how to proceed, and tell the rep your daughter's skin type/concerns.

Leuca, that's what I'm worried about. :( Thanks for the info! Thank you Sarah! Thanks patty! Can you tell me what the two bottles on the left are, I can't really tell by the picture.

Amber, you don't need to worry so much. Starting your daughter on a good skincare routine will carry her well into her teenage years and on to adulthood, regardless of whether acne/pore issues continue. She'll thank you 20 years from now. ;)

You could try a product with Salicylic Acid, it works to clean out pores. Make sure it is not too harsh since she is so young. I used Biore a lot as a teen and it worked well for my skin, I would recommend a moisturizer though if she does start cleansing with a cleanser that is a little more powerful.
