Hi!
So I have been using clinique since like high school, and although I get fairly decent coverage, by the end of the day I am so oily, you could literally see a reflection in my face. Gross. So I decided to try using a more matte foundation, and was directed to the estee lauder double wear foundation. I have been using it for about a week, and I cannot seem to apply it correctly no matter what I do :( It looks streaky if I apply with a brush, it settles into my creases when I use a beauty blender, and no matter how I apply it within a few hours I'm greasy again, and have visible patches of foundation everywhere. It just kinds of slides off my face, and it never seems to set. Now, I have done my usual routine of moisturizer and primer, but that looked horrible, so I tried extra moisturizer, less moisturizer, no moisturizer, no primer, all combinations thereof, as for application I have tried brushes, my fingers, sponges, and blenders. After foundation, I have tried just leaving it, I have tried a translucent powder, a mineral powder, a setting powder, a matte powder foundation, a setting spray.

No matter what I do, within a few hours I have patches every where, my redness shows through, and it will literally come straight off my skin if I so much as touch a tissue to my skin. From the moment I apply it it looks cakey and it doesn't cover anything.

What am I missing?? And if this foundation just isn't compatible with combination oily skin, what foundation is recommended.

Thank you!!

It may be your skin care routine or it just isn't suited for your skin. I have heard it is suited for aging skin too.

Ah, Katie!
I had the same problem, then started putting a very light layer of setting powder after moisturizer and primer, but BEFORE FOUNDATION! For myself, it works with any of my foundations on my oily skin. Since I found this technique on Wayne Goss channel, my makeup never needs a touchup before hour 5-6 , and stays put my entire 12 hour shift at a very busy ICU. Best of luck!

Hmm what primer do you use?

What Tricia said really does work. I've been doing it for about a year or so and it makes a big difference. (I don't have oily skin but I can get oily in my T-zone)

It can also be the products you use before foundation are silicone because the Estée Lauder foundation I want to say is a water based foundation. You should look at the ingredients of the products you use before the foundation

Estes Lauder Double Wear is silicone based so you shouldn't be having an issue if you're using a silicone base primer and are allowing your moisturizer enough time to sink into the skin before applying your makeup. To echo Taylor's question, what primer are you using?

I have a handful of primers that I use regularly. I use a bare minerals one sometimes, and I have also been using the estee lauder primer. My favorite one is an arbonne one, that's the one I use the most. It is water based, no oils.

I'm definitely going to try the powder trick! I think my biggest issue is not waiting for my moisturizer to absorb into my skin, I have a tendency to rush through the process and that may be my problem.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions! So appreciate it!

I was having the same problem. What works for me is letting my moisturizer absorb completely (I usually wait 5 mins), apply my primer, wait another 5 mins or do my eyebrows/eye makeup, then apply my foundation. My favorite way with double wear is via a foundation brush - I put 2 drops of Tarte maracuja oil on the brush before picking up any foundation. It really makes my foundation apply very smoothly. IT airbrush works wonderfully! My foundation doesn't settle into my pores or look streaky. I just invested in some quality brushes & that really did make a difference!! So make sure you are using a good, quality brush. Also, you might be applying too much. You only need a tiny amount, you can layer it later if its not enough coverage - just make sure you let each layer dry or it looks cakey!

Also, applying a very light layer of setting powder does work! I used IT bye bye pores. I just put a very thin layer on before & afterwards. My makeup looks so much better & flawless.

So if you're using a water based primer underneath a silicone based foundation they're incompatible, that's probably what's causing the foundation to slide around your face, maybe check the ingredients in your primers and make sure you're using a silicone based primer to go with the Estée Lauder. I personally prefer no primer/moisturiser underneath this particular foundation, I've found I get better application and longevity when it's just the foundation itself I just make sure I've properly exfoliated and heavily moisturised the night before If I know I'll be wearing makeup. Another tip I have with This If you don't already, is to work in sections of your face instead of trying to dot the foundation around your face and blend it out afterwards, I start with my chin/neck, cheeks, nose, forehead. :)

Not sure if you are still having problems, but I have been messing with this foundation a lot and here is what I have found that works.

First I wash my face and exfoliate, making sure to get rid of all dead skin cells. Followed by toner in my tzone. I have added hyaluronic acid to my skin regimen, allow it to be evenly absorbed into my skin, then apply my under eye cream & facial lotion. After my lotion has been absorbed completely, I then prep my skin with primer. I have been using smashbox photo finish primer & it works amazing with the DW. My foundation seriously stays put until I wash it off at night, and even then I have to make sure to wash my face really good to get it all off. It's like combining oil and water together on your face, the water balls up into droplets at first. I apply my foundation with a damp beauty blender, and make sure to work in sections (as stated above). After foundation, I apply concealer. I use either Tarte Shape Tape or Urban Decay naked skin, those are the only 2 that I have found that do not crease under my eyes. Usually I like using UD naked concealer under my eyes and on any problem areas, as I found it really matches the foundation finish and matches my skin tone the best. I use Tarte shape tape to highlight, it helps keep my Tzone oil free throughout the day but has a more matte finish than my foundation. I then do any cream contour or highlighting, before I apply my setting powder (I rarely do any cream highlighting, but for contouring I do use ABH cream contour kit. I take my tarte maracuja oil & apply a drop in the colors I use, which helps it spread & blend easily). For setting powder, I used RCMA translucent power under my eyes. I can pretty much use however much I want of this product, without it looking dry underneath my eyes. Any other powder that I have tried, makes it look like I have lines and wrinkles under my eyes. I like using the RCMA powder on the rest of my face too, but like the IT bye bye pores powder better. I just feel like the IT powder blurs any imperfections and hides my pores better. I do not suggest using it under your eyes though, because it just looks too heavy. I redamp my beauty blender and apply my setting powder with it. After I have set my face, I then do any powder highlighting/contouring. I feel like applying your powder highlight and contour after setting your face, its easier to blend and just seems more flawless. I use my makeup brushes to apply it, sometimes blending any harsh lines out with my beauty blender. I apply blush at this time, as well. Afterwards I do my eyebrows, eyes, and lips before finishing with a setting spray. With my setting spray, I throughly spray face and then take a paper fan to fan my face as the spray dries. I try to keep my eyes close from the time I start spraying until its dry from the fan, as this seems to prevent any movement from right after its sprayed as well as prevents creasing. I have had good results with Urban Decays all nighter setting spray.

I hope this all makes sense, and helps. I am in a hurry, but tried to be as thorough as possible - as I was too, getting VERY frustrated with this foundation that had such good reviews.
