I have honestly asked this on the HairCrazy forum 2x now and haven't got enough answers to really decide how to proceed.

I want to get this right!!
I uploaded a pic of my hair. It looks lighter because of the flash. I did that so you could see the color.. I think I need to lighten it. I'm afraid to just put blue black hair dye overt it because I don't want it to just be purple. My hair might have a bit of brassiness to it too.. so the blue on top of my hair might just turn to a muddy color that cancels out.

What products do I need from Sallys?
What steps do I take?
How do I make sure it is blue enough?
How do I maintain the proper tone I want?

This is the goal:

If you want a blue black it depends on how blue you want it. If you want it just to shine in the sunlight, dye it black and use a direct blue dye. If you want it to be a super dark blue that essentially not shines but shades black, then you can try putting a direct blue dye and mixing it with a semi permanent black and seeing if it's bright enough. If it's not, you will need to lighten your hair and repeat the steps till your happy. It's easier to get a black that shines blue. You can even add the blue to your shampoo and conditioner in the shower and keep applying till you find your perfect amount. You can also mess around with purple and green mixed it to make it your perfect shade of blue. When you apply direct dye over direct dye it gets darker as well, so just dying it a few times in a row will make it quite dark.

If you're worried about the black over your current hair, get a cool toned or at least neutral toned black to combat the brassiness.
