Try using a teasting comb and tease it a little but not to much if its in the front of you head :)

did you try hairspraying the back of the strand of hair before teasing? i get immense volume this way :)

Light hold hairspray or hair paste/wax. Also, if you use a hairdryer, fold the hair the opposite way it will lay as you dry it.
