Have you tried staining your lips rather than painting them with the lipstick? Just dab some on your finger & rub it into your lips. Your lips will look naturally pigmented. It's a good way to wear a statement lip without it overpowering your face. =]

Go for a more berry red that compliments your skin tone and don't forget to fill your entire lip with liner first so it fades more gradually.
