What's the difference between the two? If I have short nails will one make it seem longer?

I bite my nails and they were really short, it is really bad for ur nails (both) but I love mine, I think they are gel....

If you go to a salon, you can get acrylic nails. They'll add plastic tips onto your nails to make them look longer. Gel nails are basically gel nail polish that is applied to the top of your natural nails. Gel nails are much healthier and less time consuming. Here are my gel nails, done at home on my own.
