Hi Justine, typically people on social media are sent free stuff from companies for sponsorship purposes. The company will send someone with a decent amount of followers free stuff in hopes that they'll give them promo.

Working in the beauty industry. I worked as a beauty journalist for a year and got free beauty products to review. But that's just a perk, you've to be passionate in what you're doing to truly enjoy the job.

Everyone wants free makeup lol...
but the reason youtubers get free makeup I because the companies use them for marketing (showing them in their vids for example). you would have to be pretty successful on social media to receive things from companies... its uncommon tbh...

And any websites that claim to send free makeup are all scams, be careful.

If you're talking about all those beauty gurus than it's probably cosmetic companies sending them free products in hopes they'll include said product (s) in one of their videos. Helps promote, advertise their brand and products. You'd have to become a beauty guru or make your name in the cosmetic industry. Though those girls on YouTuBe probably had to spend quite a bit on makeup before companies noticed them.

Just to add that usually some of the YouTube people or instagram personality will ask companies to give them freebies in exchange for free advertising of a product.Another thing is that people in general will send them gifts or product's too and that is why most will have that info on their page's (If you would like to send something PO Box info)

At Sephora if you don't have one already, you can get a beauty insider card. When you buy products you get points and can get free makeup with them. Some of the stuff you can get works very well!
